Meet Shyam Sensei

From 12‑Year‑Old Beginner to 6th Dan & Mentor

Shyam Raithatha discovered Shotokan karate at age 12 and fell in love with the discipline under Sensei Eric Pich.

In 1997 he earned his 1st Dan under Sensei Enoeda and Sensei Andy Sherry, beginning a competitive journey that would see him win multiple national and international kata and kumite titles, captain Team England and attain a 6th Dan in Tokyo under Kagawa Shihan.

Beyond the dojo, Shyam is the CEO of a security company, providing door supervision and personal protection services to high‑profile clients. This real‑world experience informs his practical approach to self‑defence and leadership.

Despite early setbacks and the demands of running a business, Shyam has never stopped learning. He trains regularly in Japan, completed gruelling winter Kangeiko sessions, and founded Harrow Shotokan Karate in 2011 to share authentic teaching with his community. His mission is simple: build confident, disciplined people through the art of traditional Shotokan karate.
